Randolph County received $4.4M of funding from the federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus. One of the main uses of this funding was to improve the air quality and foot traffic efficiency of public buildings; therefore, the County Commission partnered with the Association of County Commissions of Alabama’s Investing in Alabama Counties program for advisement on how to best utilize the county’s funds to provide a lasting impact for the county residents for many years beyond the COVID-19 pandemic and comply with the several requirements placed upon the county by the U.S. Treasury for acceptable uses of the money. One major problem the county experienced during the pandemic was the lack of a proper security clearance area, which led to several citizens waiting outside the building in the weather elements, so JMR+H Architecture from Montgomery, Alabama was contracted to help address the security clearance area and a subsequent bid award was made to Forsyth Building Company of Anniston, Alabama. The results from those partnerships were a(n) improved security clearance area, new elevator to replace the old 1985 model elevator, new fire rated staircase, new fire alarm system which the building did not previously have, new ADA restrooms on the 2nd floor which were not previously ADA compliant, renovated multi-purpose meeting room on the 2nd floor, and renovated office areas for the Circuit Clerk on the 2nd floor of the courthouse with all other court related offices. The project began on November 4, 2024 and ended on December 3, 2025 with a ribbon cutting and grand reopening ceremony held at 2pm on December 8, 2025. The County Commission is grateful to the tremendous amount of patience and teamwork it took from the citizens, department heads, and employees to complete this great accomplishment.
